- Al Ma’arij Ayah 1سَأَلَ سَآئِلُۢ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ ١ A challenger has demanded a punishment bound to come
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 2لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُۥ دَافِعٌ ٢ for the disbelievers—to be averted by none—
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 3مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ذِى ٱلْمَعَارِجِ ٣ from Allah, Lord of pathways of ?heavenly? ascent,
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 4تَعْرُجُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِى يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُۥ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ ٤ ?through which? the angels and the ?holy? spirit will ascend to Him on a Day fifty thousand years in length.
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 5فَٱصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلاً ٥ So endure ?this denial, O Prophet,? with beautiful patience.
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 6إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُۥ بَعِيدًا ٦ They truly see this ?Day? as impossible,
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 7وَنَرَٮٰهُ قَرِيبًا ٧ but We see it as inevitable.
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 8يَوْمَ تَكُونُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ كَٱلْمُهْلِ ٨ On that Day the sky will be like molten brass
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 9وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ ٩ and the mountains like ?tufts of? wool.
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 10وَلَا يَسْــَٔلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًا ١٠ And no close friend will ask ?about? their friends,
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 11يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْۚ يَوَدُّ ٱلْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِى مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذِۭ بِبَنِيهِ ١١ ?although? they will be made to see each other. The wicked will wish to ransom themselves from the punishment of that Day by their children,
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 12وَصَـٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَأَخِيهِ ١٢ their spouses, their siblings,
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 13وَفَصِيلَتِهِ ٱلَّتِى تُــْٔوِيهِ ١٣ their clan that sheltered them,
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 14وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ ١٤ and everyone on earth altogether, just to save themselves.
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 15كَلَّآۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ ١٥ But no! There will certainly be a raging Flame
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 16نَزَّاعَةً لِّلشَّوَىٰ ١٦ ripping off scalps.
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 17تَدْعُواْ مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ ١٧ It will summon whoever turned their backs ?on Allah? and turned away ?from the truth?,
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 18وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَىٰٓ ١٨ and gathered and hoarded ?wealth?.
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 19۞ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا ١٩ Indeed, humankind was created impatient:
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 20إِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ جَزُوعًا ٢٠ distressed when touched with evil,
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 21وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا ٢١ and withholding when touched with good—
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 22إِلَّا ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ ٢٢ except those who pray,
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 23ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ دَآئِمُونَ ٢٣ consistently performing their prayers;
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 24وَٱلَّذِينَ فِىٓ أَمْوَٲلِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَّعْلُومٌ ٢٤ and who give the rightful share of their wealth
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 25لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلْمَحْرُومِ ٢٥ to the beggar and the poor;
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 26وَٱلَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ ٢٦ and who ?firmly? believe in the Day of Judgment;
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 27وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُونَ ٢٧ and those who fear the punishment of their Lord—
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 28إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍ ٢٨ ?knowing that? none should feel secure from their Lord’s punishment—
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 29وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَـٰفِظُونَ ٢٩ and those who guard their chastity
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 30إِلَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَزْوَٲجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ ٣٠ except with their wives or those ?bondwomen? in their possession, for then they are free from blame,
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 31فَمَنِ ٱبْتَغَىٰ وَرَآءَ ذَٲلِكَ فَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْعَادُونَ ٣١ but whoever seeks beyond that are the transgressors.
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 32وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَـٰنَـٰتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَٲعُونَ ٣٢ ?The faithful are? also those who are true to their trusts and covenants;
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 33وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِشَهَـٰدَٲتِهِمْ قَآئِمُونَ ٣٣ and who are honest in their testimony;
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 34وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ ٣٤ and who are ?properly? observant of their prayers.
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 35أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ مُّكْرَمُونَ ٣٥ These will be in Gardens, held in honour.
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 36فَمَالِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ ٣٦ So what is the matter with the disbelievers that they rush ?head-long? towards you ?O Prophet?,
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 37عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ ٣٧ from the right and the left, in groups ?to mock you??
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 38أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِىٍٕ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٍ ٣٨ Does every one of them expect to be admitted into a Garden of Bliss?
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 39كَلَّآۖ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُم مِّمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ ٣٩ But no! Indeed, they ?already? know what We created them from.
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 40فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ ٱلْمَشَـٰرِقِ وَٱلْمَغَـٰرِبِ إِنَّا لَقَـٰدِرُونَ ٤٠ So, I do swear by the Lord of ?all? the points of sunrise and sunset that We are truly capable
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 41عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ ٤١ of replacing them with ?others? better than them, and We cannot be prevented ?from doing so?.
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 42فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُواْ وَيَلْعَبُواْ حَتَّىٰ يُلَـٰقُواْ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى يُوعَدُونَ ٤٢ So let them indulge ?in falsehood? and amuse ?themselves? until they face their Day, which they have been threatened with—
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 43يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ ٤٣ the Day they will come forth from the graves swiftly, as if racing to an idol ?for a blessing?,
- Al Ma’arij Ayah 44خَـٰشِعَةً أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌۚ ذَٲلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلَّذِى كَانُواْ يُوعَدُونَ ٤٤ with eyes downcast, utterly covered with disgrace. That is the Day they have ?always? been warned of.
المعارج which is spelled Surah Al Ma'arij in english has meaning The Ascending Stairways is placed at number 70 in the Quran. This surah that contains 44 number of ayah, started on page 568 & ends on page 570 in the Holy Quran.
المعارج is part of & given to prophet Muhammad as the number 79 in the order of Quran revelation.
