- An Nur Ayah 1سُورَةٌ أَنزَلْنَـٰهَا وَفَرَضْنَـٰهَا وَأَنزَلْنَا فِيهَآ ءَايَـٰتِۭ بَيِّنَـٰتٍ لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ ١ ?This is? a sûrah which We have revealed and made ?its rulings? obligatory, and revealed in it clear commandments so that you may be mindful.
- An Nur Ayah 2ٱلزَّانِيَةُ وَٱلزَّانِى فَٱجْلِدُواْ كُلَّ وَٲحِدٍ مِّنْهُمَا مِاْئَةَ جَلْدَةٍۖ وَلَا تَأْخُذْكُم بِهِمَا رَأْفَةٌ فِى دِينِ ٱللَّهِ إِن كُنتُمْ تُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْأَخِرِۖ وَلْيَشْهَدْ عَذَابَهُمَا طَآئِفَةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ٢ As for female and male fornicators, give each of them one hundred lashes, and do not let pity for them make you lenient in ?enforcing? the law of Allah, if you ?truly? believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let a number of believers witness their punishment.
- An Nur Ayah 4وَٱلَّذِينَ يَرْمُونَ ٱلْمُحْصَنَـٰتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَأْتُواْ بِأَرْبَعَةِ شُهَدَآءَ فَٱجْلِدُوهُمْ ثَمَـٰنِينَ جَلْدَةً وَلَا تَقْبَلُواْ لَهُمْ شَهَـٰدَةً أَبَدًاۚ وَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْفَـٰسِقُونَ ٤ Those who accuse chaste women ?of adultery? and fail to produce four witnesses, give them eighty lashes ?each?. And do not ever accept any testimony from them—for they are indeed the rebellious—
- An Nur Ayah 3ٱلزَّانِى لَا يَنكِحُ إِلَّا زَانِيَةً أَوْ مُشْرِكَةً وَٱلزَّانِيَةُ لَا يَنكِحُهَآ إِلَّا زَانٍ أَوْ مُشْرِكٌۚ وَحُرِّمَ ذَٲلِكَ عَلَى ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ٣ A male fornicator would only marry a female fornicator or idolatress. And a female fornicator would only be married to a fornicator or idolater. This is ?all? forbidden to the believers.
- An Nur Ayah 5إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ تَابُواْ مِنۢ بَعْدِ ذَٲلِكَ وَأَصْلَحُواْ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ ٥ except those who repent afterwards and mend their ways, then surely Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
- An Nur Ayah 6وَٱلَّذِينَ يَرْمُونَ أَزْوَٲجَهُمْ وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُمْ شُهَدَآءُ إِلَّآ أَنفُسُهُمْ فَشَهَـٰدَةُ أَحَدِهِمْ أَرْبَعُ شَهَـٰدَٲتِۭ بِٱللَّهِۙ إِنَّهُۥ لَمِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ ٦ And those who accuse their wives ?of adultery? but have no witness except themselves, the accuser must testify, swearing four times by Allah that he is telling the truth,
- An Nur Ayah 7وَٱلْخَـٰمِسَةُ أَنَّ لَعْنَتَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ ٧ and a fifth oath that Allah may condemn him if he is lying.
- An Nur Ayah 8وَيَدْرَؤُاْ عَنْهَا ٱلْعَذَابَ أَن تَشْهَدَ أَرْبَعَ شَهَـٰدَٲتِۭ بِٱللَّهِۙ إِنَّهُۥ لَمِنَ ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ ٨ For her to be spared the punishment, she must swear four times by Allah that he is telling a lie,
- An Nur Ayah 9وَٱلْخَـٰمِسَةَ أَنَّ غَضَبَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْهَآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ ٩ and a fifth oath that Allah may be displeased with her if he is telling the truth.
- An Nur Ayah 10وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ تَوَّابٌ حَكِيمٌ ١٠ ?You would have suffered,? had it not been for Allah’s grace and mercy upon you, and had Allah not been Accepting of Repentance, All-Wise.
- An Nur Ayah 11إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ جَآءُو بِٱلْإِفْكِ عُصْبَةٌ مِّنكُمْۚ لَا تَحْسَبُوهُ شَرًّا لَّكُمۖ بَلْ هُوَ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْۚ لِكُلِّ ٱمْرِىٍٕ مِّنْهُم مَّا ٱكْتَسَبَ مِنَ ٱلْإِثْمِۚ وَٱلَّذِى تَوَلَّىٰ كِبْرَهُۥ مِنْهُمْ لَهُۥ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ ١١ Indeed, those who came up with that ?outrageous? slander are a group of you. Do not think this is bad for you. Rather, it is good for you. They will be punished, each according to their share of the sin. As for their mastermind, he will suffer a tremendous punishment.
- An Nur Ayah 12لَّوْلَآ إِذْ سَمِعْتُمُوهُ ظَنَّ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتُ بِأَنفُسِهِمْ خَيْرًا وَقَالُواْ هَـٰذَآ إِفْكٌ مُّبِينٌ ١٢ If only the believing men and women had thought well of one another, when you heard this ?rumour?, and said, “This is clearly ?an outrageous? slander!”
- An Nur Ayah 15إِذْ تَلَقَّوْنَهُۥ بِأَلْسِنَتِكُمْ وَتَقُولُونَ بِأَفْوَاهِكُم مَّا لَيْسَ لَكُم بِهِۦ عِلْمٌ وَتَحْسَبُونَهُۥ هَيِّنًا وَهُوَ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ عَظِيمٌ ١٥ when you passed it from one tongue to the other, and said with your mouths what you had no knowledge of, taking it lightly while it is ?extremely? serious in the sight of Allah.
- An Nur Ayah 14وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْأَخِرَةِ لَمَسَّكُمْ فِى مَآ أَفَضْتُمْ فِيهِ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ ١٤ Had it not been for Allah’s grace and mercy upon you in this world and the Hereafter, you would have certainly been touched with a tremendous punishment for what you plunged into—
- An Nur Ayah 13لَّوْلَا جَآءُو عَلَيْهِ بِأَرْبَعَةِ شُهَدَآءَۚ فَإِذْ لَمْ يَأْتُواْ بِٱلشُّهَدَآءِ فَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ هُمُ ٱلْكَـٰذِبُونَ ١٣ Why did they not produce four witnesses? Now, since they have failed to produce witnesses, they are ?truly? liars in the sight of Allah.
- An Nur Ayah 16وَلَوْلَآ إِذْ سَمِعْتُمُوهُ قُلْتُم مَّا يَكُونُ لَنَآ أَن نَّتَكَلَّمَ بِهَـٰذَا سُبْحَـٰنَكَ هَـٰذَا بُهْتَـٰنٌ عَظِيمٌ ١٦ If only you had said upon hearing it, “How can we speak about such a thing! Glory be to You ?O Lord?! This is a heinous slander!”
- An Nur Ayah 17يَعِظُكُمُ ٱللَّهُ أَن تَعُودُواْ لِمِثْلِهِۦٓ أَبَدًا إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ ١٧ Allah forbids you from ever doing something like this again, if you are ?true? believers.
- An Nur Ayah 18وَيُبَيِّنُ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَيَـٰتِۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ ١٨ And Allah makes ?His? commandments clear to you, for Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
- An Nur Ayah 19إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُحِبُّونَ أَن تَشِيعَ ٱلْفَـٰحِشَةُ فِى ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْأَخِرَةِۚ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ ١٩ Indeed, those who love to see indecency spread among the believers will suffer a painful punishment in this life and the Hereafter. Allah knows and you do not know.
- An Nur Ayah 20وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ رَءُوفٌ رَّحِيمٌ ٢٠ ?You would have suffered,? had it not been for Allah’s grace and mercy upon you, and had Allah not been Ever Gracious, Most Merciful.
- An Nur Ayah 21۞ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَا تَتَّبِعُواْ خُطُوَٲتِ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِۚ وَمَن يَتَّبِعْ خُطُوَٲتِ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ فَإِنَّهُۥ يَأْمُرُ بِٱلْفَحْشَآءِ وَٱلْمُنكَرِۚ وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ مَا زَكَىٰ مِنكُم مِّنْ أَحَدٍ أَبَدًا وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُزَكِّى مَن يَشَآءُۗ وَٱللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ ٢١ O believers! Do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Whoever follows Satan’s footsteps, then ?let them know that? he surely bids ?all to? immorality and wickedness. Had it not been for Allah’s grace and mercy upon you, none of you would have ever been purified. But Allah purifies whoever He wills. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
- An Nur Ayah 22وَلَا يَأْتَلِ أُوْلُواْ ٱلْفَضْلِ مِنكُمْ وَٱلسَّعَةِ أَن يُؤْتُوٓاْ أُوْلِى ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ وَٱلْمَسَـٰكِينَ وَٱلْمُهَـٰجِرِينَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِۖ وَلْيَعْفُواْ وَلْيَصْفَحُوٓاْۗ أَلَا تُحِبُّونَ أَن يَغْفِرَ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْۗ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ ٢٢ Do not let the people of virtue and affluence among you swear to suspend donations to their relatives, the needy, and the emigrants in the cause of Allah. Let them pardon and forgive. Do you not love to be forgiven by Allah? And Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
- An Nur Ayah 23إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَرْمُونَ ٱلْمُحْصَنَـٰتِ ٱلْغَـٰفِلَـٰتِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ لُعِنُواْ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْأَخِرَةِ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ ٢٣ Surely those who accuse chaste, unsuspecting, believing women are cursed in this life and the Hereafter. And they will suffer a tremendous punishment
- An Nur Ayah 24يَوْمَ تَشْهَدُ عَلَيْهِمْ أَلْسِنَتُهُمْ وَأَيْدِيهِمْ وَأَرْجُلُهُم بِمَا كَانُواْ يَعْمَلُونَ ٢٤ on the Day their tongues, hands, and feet will testify against them for what they used to do.
- An Nur Ayah 25يَوْمَئِذٍ يُوَفِّيهِمُ ٱللَّهُ دِينَهُمُ ٱلْحَقَّ وَيَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْحَقُّ ٱلْمُبِينُ ٢٥ On that Day, Allah will give them their just penalty in full, and they will ?come to? know that Allah ?alone? is the Ultimate Truth.
- An Nur Ayah 26ٱلْخَبِيثَـٰتُ لِلْخَبِيثِينَ وَٱلْخَبِيثُونَ لِلْخَبِيثَـٰتِۖ وَٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتُ لِلطَّيِّبِينَ وَٱلطَّيِّبُونَ لِلطَّيِّبَـٰتِۚ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ مُبَرَّءُونَ مِمَّا يَقُولُونَۖ لَهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌ وَرِزْقٌ كَرِيمٌ ٢٦ Wicked women are for wicked men, and wicked men are for wicked women. And virtuous women are for virtuous men, and virtuous men are for virtuous women. The virtuous are innocent of what the wicked say. They will have forgiveness and an honourable provision.
- An Nur Ayah 27يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَا تَدْخُلُواْ بُيُوتًا غَيْرَ بُيُوتِكُمْ حَتَّىٰ تَسْتَأْنِسُواْ وَتُسَلِّمُواْ عَلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهَاۚ ذَٲلِكُمْ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ ٢٧ O believers! Do not enter any house other than your own until you have asked for permission and greeted its occupants. This is best for you, so perhaps you will be mindful.
- An Nur Ayah 28فَإِن لَّمْ تَجِدُواْ فِيهَآ أَحَدًا فَلَا تَدْخُلُوهَا حَتَّىٰ يُؤْذَنَ لَكُمْۖ وَإِن قِيلَ لَكُمُ ٱرْجِعُواْ فَٱرْجِعُواْۖ هُوَ أَزْكَىٰ لَكُمْۚ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ عَلِيمٌ ٢٨ If you find no one at home, do not enter it until you have been given permission. And if you are asked to leave, then leave. That is purer for you. And Allah has ?perfect? knowledge of what you do.
- An Nur Ayah 29لَّيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌ أَن تَدْخُلُواْ بُيُوتًا غَيْرَ مَسْكُونَةٍ فِيهَا مَتَـٰعٌ لَّكُمْۚ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا تُبْدُونَ وَمَا تَكْتُمُونَ ٢٩ There is no blame on you if you enter public places where there is something of benefit for you. And Allah knows what you reveal and what you conceal.
- An Nur Ayah 30قُل لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَغُضُّواْ مِنْ أَبْصَـٰرِهِمْ وَيَحْفَظُواْ فُرُوجَهُمْۚ ذَٲلِكَ أَزْكَىٰ لَهُمْۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ خَبِيرُۢ بِمَا يَصْنَعُونَ ٣٠ ?O Prophet!? Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and guard their chastity. That is purer for them. Surely Allah is All-Aware of what they do.
- An Nur Ayah 31وَقُل لِّلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ يَغْضُضْنَ مِنْ أَبْصَـٰرِهِنَّ وَيَحْفَظْنَ فُرُوجَهُنَّ وَلَا يُبْدِينَ زِينَتَهُنَّ إِلَّا مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَاۖ وَلْيَضْرِبْنَ بِخُمُرِهِنَّ عَلَىٰ جُيُوبِهِنَّۖ وَلَا يُبْدِينَ زِينَتَهُنَّ إِلَّا لِبُعُولَتِهِنَّ أَوْ ءَابَآئِهِنَّ أَوْ ءَابَآءِ بُعُولَتِهِنَّ أَوْ أَبْنَآئِهِنَّ أَوْ أَبْنَآءِ بُعُولَتِهِنَّ أَوْ إِخْوَٲنِهِنَّ أَوْ بَنِىٓ إِخْوَٲنِهِنَّ أَوْ بَنِىٓ أَخَوَٲتِهِنَّ أَوْ نِسَآئِهِنَّ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُهُنَّ أَوِ ٱلتَّـٰبِعِينَ غَيْرِ أُوْلِى ٱلْإِرْبَةِ مِنَ ٱلرِّجَالِ أَوِ ٱلطِّفْلِ ٱلَّذِينَ لَمْ يَظْهَرُواْ عَلَىٰ عَوْرَٲتِ ٱلنِّسَآءِۖ وَلَا يَضْرِبْنَ بِأَرْجُلِهِنَّ لِيُعْلَمَ مَا يُخْفِينَ مِن زِينَتِهِنَّۚ وَتُوبُوٓاْ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ جَمِيعًا أَيُّهَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ ٣١ And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their chastity, and not to reveal their adornments except what normally appears. Let them draw their veils over their chests, and not reveal their ?hidden? adornments except to their husbands, their fathers, their fathers-in-law, their sons, their stepsons, their brothers, their brothers’ sons or sisters’ sons, their fellow women, those ?bondwomen? in their possession, male attendants with no desire, or children who are still unaware of women’s nakedness. Let them not stomp their feet, drawing attention to their hidden adornments. Turn to Allah in repentance all together, O believers, so that you may be successful.
- An Nur Ayah 32وَأَنكِحُواْ ٱلْأَيَـٰمَىٰ مِنكُمْ وَٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ مِنْ عِبَادِكُمْ وَإِمَآئِكُمْۚ إِن يَكُونُواْ فُقَرَآءَ يُغْنِهِمُ ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِۦۗ وَٱللَّهُ وَٲسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ ٣٢ Marry off the ?free? singles among you, as well as the righteous of your bondmen and bondwomen. If they are poor, Allah will enrich them out of His bounty. For Allah is All-Bountiful, All-Knowing.
- An Nur Ayah 33وَلْيَسْتَعْفِفِ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَجِدُونَ نِكَاحًا حَتَّىٰ يُغْنِيَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِۦۗ وَٱلَّذِينَ يَبْتَغُونَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ مِمَّا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُكُمْ فَكَاتِبُوهُمْ إِنْ عَلِمْتُمْ فِيهِمْ خَيْرًاۖ وَءَاتُوهُم مِّن مَّالِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِىٓ ءَاتَـٰكُمْۚ وَلَا تُكْرِهُواْ فَتَيَـٰتِكُمْ عَلَى ٱلْبِغَآءِ إِنْ أَرَدْنَ تَحَصُّنًا لِّتَبْتَغُواْ عَرَضَ ٱلْحَيَوٲةِ ٱلدُّنْيَاۚ وَمَن يُكْرِههُّنَّ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ إِكْرَٲهِهِنَّ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ ٣٣ And let those who do not have the means to marry keep themselves chaste until Allah enriches them out of His bounty. And if any of those ?bondspeople? in your possession desires a deed of emancipation, make it possible for them, if you find goodness in them. And give them some of Allah’s wealth which He has granted you. Do not force your ?slave? girls into prostitution for your own worldly gains while they wish to remain chaste. And if someone coerces them, then after such a coercion Allah is certainly All-Forgiving, Most Merciful ?to them?.
- An Nur Ayah 34وَلَقَدْ أَنزَلْنَآ إِلَيْكُمْ ءَايَـٰتٍ مُّبَيِّنَـٰتٍ وَمَثَلاً مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ خَلَوْاْ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ وَمَوْعِظَةً لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ ٣٤ Indeed, We have sent down to you clear revelations, along with examples of those who had gone before you, and a lesson to the God-fearing.
- An Nur Ayah 35۞ ٱللَّهُ نُورُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِۚ مَثَلُ نُورِهِۦ كَمِشْكَوٲةٍ فِيهَا مِصْبَاحٌۖ ٱلْمِصْبَاحُ فِى زُجَاجَةٍۖ ٱلزُّجَاجَةُ كَأَنَّهَا كَوْكَبٌ دُرِّىٌّ يُوقَدُ مِن شَجَرَةٍ مُّبَـٰرَكَةٍ زَيْتُونَةٍ لَّا شَرْقِيَّةٍ وَلَا غَرْبِيَّةٍ يَكَادُ زَيْتُهَا يُضِىٓءُ وَلَوْ لَمْ تَمْسَسْهُ نَارٌۚ نُّورٌ عَلَىٰ نُورٍۗ يَهْدِى ٱللَّهُ لِنُورِهِۦ مَن يَشَآءُۚ وَيَضْرِبُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْأَمْثَـٰلَ لِلنَّاسِۗ وَٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌ ٣٥ Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. His light is like a niche in which there is a lamp, the lamp is in a crystal, the crystal is like a shining star, lit from ?the oil of? a blessed olive tree, ?located? neither to the east nor the west, whose oil would almost glow, even without being touched by fire. Light upon light! Allah guides whoever He wills to His light. And Allah sets forth parables for humanity. For Allah has ?perfect? knowledge of all things.
- An Nur Ayah 36فِى بُيُوتٍ أَذِنَ ٱللَّهُ أَن تُرْفَعَ وَيُذْكَرَ فِيهَا ٱسْمُهُۥ يُسَبِّحُ لَهُۥ فِيهَا بِٱلْغُدُوِّ وَٱلْأَصَالِ ٣٦ ?That light shines? through houses ?of worship? which Allah has ordered to be raised, and where His Name is mentioned. He is glorified there morning and evening
- An Nur Ayah 37رِجَالٌ لَّا تُلْهِيهِمْ تِجَـٰرَةٌ وَلَا بَيْعٌ عَن ذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ وَإِقَامِ ٱلصَّلَوٲةِ وَإِيتَآءِ ٱلزَّكَوٲةِۙ يَخَافُونَ يَوْمًا تَتَقَلَّبُ فِيهِ ٱلْقُلُوبُ وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرُ ٣٧ by men who are not distracted—either by buying or selling—from Allah’s remembrance, or performing prayer, or paying alms-tax. They fear a Day when hearts and eyes will tremble,
- An Nur Ayah 38لِيَجْزِيَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ أَحْسَنَ مَا عَمِلُواْ وَيَزِيدَهُم مِّن فَضْلِهِۦۗ وَٱللَّهُ يَرْزُقُ مَن يَشَآءُ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ ٣٨ ?hoping? that Allah may reward them according to the best of their deeds, and increase them out of His grace. And Allah provides for whoever He wills without limit.
- An Nur Ayah 39وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓاْ أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْ كَسَرَابِۭ بِقِيعَةٍ يَحْسَبُهُ ٱلظَّمْـَٔـانُ مَآءً حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءَهُۥ لَمْ يَجِدْهُ شَيْــًٔا وَوَجَدَ ٱللَّهَ عِندَهُۥ فَوَفَّـٰهُ حِسَابَهُۥۗ وَٱللَّهُ سَرِيعُ ٱلْحِسَابِ ٣٩ As for the disbelievers, their deeds are like a mirage in a desert, which the thirsty perceive as water, but when they approach it, they find it to be nothing. Instead, they find Allah there ?in the Hereafter, ready? to settle their account. And Allah is swift in reckoning.
- An Nur Ayah 40أَوْ كَظُلُمَـٰتٍ فِى بَحْرٍ لُّجِّىٍّ يَغْشَـٰهُ مَوْجٌ مِّن فَوْقِهِۦ مَوْجٌ مِّن فَوْقِهِۦ سَحَابٌۚ ظُلُمَـٰتُۢ بَعْضُهَا فَوْقَ بَعْضٍ إِذَآ أَخْرَجَ يَدَهُۥ لَمْ يَكَدْ يَرَٮٰهَاۗ وَمَن لَّمْ يَجْعَلِ ٱللَّهُ لَهُۥ نُورًا فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن نُّورٍ ٤٠ Or ?their deeds are? like the darkness in a deep sea, covered by waves upon waves, topped by ?dark? clouds. Darkness upon darkness! If one stretches out their hand, they can hardly see it. And whoever Allah does not bless with light will have no light!
- An Nur Ayah 41أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُسَبِّحُ لَهُۥ مَن فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱلطَّيْرُ صَـٰٓفَّـٰتٍۖ كُلٌّ قَدْ عَلِمَ صَلَاتَهُۥ وَتَسْبِيحَهُۥۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمُۢ بِمَا يَفْعَلُونَ ٤١ Do you not see that Allah is glorified by all those in the heavens and the earth, even the birds as they soar? Each ?instinctively? knows their manner of prayer and glorification. And Allah has ?perfect? knowledge of all they do.
- An Nur Ayah 42وَلِلَّهِ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِۖ وَإِلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمَصِيرُ ٤٢ To Allah ?alone? belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. And to Allah is the final return.
- An Nur Ayah 43أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُزْجِى سَحَابًا ثُمَّ يُؤَلِّفُ بَيْنَهُۥ ثُمَّ يَجْعَلُهُۥ رُكَامًا فَتَرَى ٱلْوَدْقَ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ خِلَـٰلِهِۦ وَيُنَزِّلُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مِن جِبَالٍ فِيهَا مِنۢ بَرَدٍ فَيُصِيبُ بِهِۦ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَصْرِفُهُۥ عَن مَّن يَشَآءُۖ يَكَادُ سَنَا بَرْقِهِۦ يَذْهَبُ بِٱلْأَبْصَـٰرِ ٤٣ Do you not see that Allah gently drives the clouds, then joins them together, piling them up into masses, from which you see raindrops come forth? And He sends down from the sky mountains ?of clouds? loaded with hail, pouring it on whoever He wills and averting it from whoever He wills. The flash of the clouds’ lightning nearly takes away eyesight.
- An Nur Ayah 44يُقَلِّبُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّيْلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٲلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لِّأُوْلِى ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرِ ٤٤ Allah alternates the day and night. Surely in this is a lesson for people of insight.
- An Nur Ayah 45وَٱللَّهُ خَلَقَ كُلَّ دَآبَّةٍ مِّن مَّآءٍۖ فَمِنْهُم مَّن يَمْشِى عَلَىٰ بَطْنِهِۦ وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَمْشِى عَلَىٰ رِجْلَيْنِ وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَمْشِى عَلَىٰٓ أَرْبَعٍۚ يَخْلُقُ ٱللَّهُ مَا يَشَآءُۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ ٤٥ And Allah has created from water every living creature. Some of them crawl on their bellies, some walk on two legs, and some walk on four. Allah creates whatever He wills. Surely Allah is Most Capable of everything.
- An Nur Ayah 46لَّقَدْ أَنزَلْنَآ ءَايَـٰتٍ مُّبَيِّنَـٰتٍۚ وَٱللَّهُ يَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ إِلَىٰ صِرَٲطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ ٤٦ We have indeed sent down revelations clarifying ?the truth?. But Allah ?only? guides whoever He wills to the Straight Path.
- An Nur Ayah 47وَيَقُولُونَ ءَامَنَّا بِٱللَّهِ وَبِٱلرَّسُولِ وَأَطَعْنَا ثُمَّ يَتَوَلَّىٰ فَرِيقٌ مِّنْهُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ ذَٲلِكَۚ وَمَآ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ٤٧ And the hypocrites say, “We believe in Allah and the Messenger, and we obey.” Then a group of them turns away soon after that. These are not ?true? believers.
- An Nur Ayah 48وَإِذَا دُعُوٓاْ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ لِيَحْكُمَ بَيْنَهُمْ إِذَا فَرِيقٌ مِّنْهُم مُّعْرِضُونَ ٤٨ And as soon as they are called to Allah and His Messenger so he may judge between them, a group of them turns away.
- An Nur Ayah 49وَإِن يَكُن لَّهُمُ ٱلْحَقُّ يَأْتُوٓاْ إِلَيْهِ مُذْعِنِينَ ٤٩ But if the truth is in their favour, they come to him, fully submitting.
- An Nur Ayah 50أَفِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ أَمِ ٱرْتَابُوٓاْ أَمْ يَخَافُونَ أَن يَحِيفَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَرَسُولُهُۥۚ بَلْ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ ٥٠ Is there a sickness in their hearts? Or are they in doubt? Or do they fear that Allah and His Messenger will be unjust to them? In fact, it is they who are the ?true? wrongdoers.
- An Nur Ayah 51إِنَّمَا كَانَ قَوْلَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِذَا دُعُوٓاْ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ لِيَحْكُمَ بَيْنَهُمْ أَن يَقُولُواْ سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَاۚ وَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ ٥١ The only response of the ?true? believers, when they are called to Allah and His Messenger so he may judge between them, is to say, “We hear and obey.” It is they who will ?truly? succeed.
- An Nur Ayah 52وَمَن يُطِعِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ وَيَخْشَ ٱللَّهَ وَيَتَّقْهِ فَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْفَآئِزُونَ ٥٢ For whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, and fears Allah and is mindful of Him, then it is they who will ?truly? triumph.
- An Nur Ayah 53۞ وَأَقْسَمُواْ بِٱللَّهِ جَهْدَ أَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ لَئِنْ أَمَرْتَهُمْ لَيَخْرُجُنَّۖ قُل لَّا تُقْسِمُواْۖ طَاعَةٌ مَّعْرُوفَةٌۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ خَبِيرُۢ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ ٥٣ They swear by Allah their most solemn oaths that if you ?O Prophet? were to command them, they would certainly march forth ?in Allah’s cause?. Say, “?You? do not ?have to? swear; your obedience is well known!” Surely Allah is All-Aware of what you do.”
- An Nur Ayah 54قُلْ أَطِيعُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُواْ ٱلرَّسُولَۖ فَإِن تَوَلَّوْاْ فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيْهِ مَا حُمِّلَ وَعَلَيْكُم مَّا حُمِّلْتُمْۖ وَإِن تُطِيعُوهُ تَهْتَدُواْۚ وَمَا عَلَى ٱلرَّسُولِ إِلَّا ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ ٱلْمُبِينُ ٥٤ Say, “Obey Allah and obey the Messenger. But if you turn away, then he is only responsible for his duty and you are responsible for yours. And if you obey him, you will be ?rightly? guided. The Messenger’s duty is only to deliver ?the message? clearly.”
- An Nur Ayah 55وَعَدَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ مِنكُمْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَيَسْتَخْلِفَنَّهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَمَا ٱسْتَخْلَفَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ وَلَيُمَكِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ دِينَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى ٱرْتَضَىٰ لَهُمْ وَلَيُبَدِّلَنَّهُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ خَوْفِهِمْ أَمْنًاۚ يَعْبُدُونَنِى لَا يُشْرِكُونَ بِى شَيْــًٔاۚ وَمَن كَفَرَ بَعْدَ ذَٲلِكَ فَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْفَـٰسِقُونَ ٥٥ Allah has promised those of you who believe and do good that He will certainly make them successors in the land, as He did with those before them; and will surely establish for them their faith which He has chosen for them; and will indeed change their fear into security—?provided that? they worship Me, associating nothing with Me. But whoever disbelieves after this ?promise?, it is they who will be the rebellious.
- An Nur Ayah 56وَأَقِيمُواْ ٱلصَّلَوٲةَ وَءَاتُواْ ٱلزَّكَوٲةَ وَأَطِيعُواْ ٱلرَّسُولَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ ٥٦ Moreover, establish prayer, pay alms-tax, and obey the Messenger, so you may be shown mercy.
- An Nur Ayah 57لَا تَحْسَبَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مُعْجِزِينَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِۚ وَمَأْوَٮٰهُمُ ٱلنَّارُۖ وَلَبِئْسَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ ٥٧ Do not think ?O Prophet? that the disbelievers can escape in the land. The Fire will be their home. Indeed, what an evil destination!
- An Nur Ayah 58يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لِيَسْتَــْٔذِنكُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُكُمْ وَٱلَّذِينَ لَمْ يَبْلُغُواْ ٱلْحُلُمَ مِنكُمْ ثَلَـٰثَ مَرَّٲتٍۚ مِّن قَبْلِ صَلَوٲةِ ٱلْفَجْرِ وَحِينَ تَضَعُونَ ثِيَابَكُم مِّنَ ٱلظَّهِيرَةِ وَمِنۢ بَعْدِ صَلَوٲةِ ٱلْعِشَآءِۚ ثَلَـٰثُ عَوْرَٲتٍ لَّكُمْۚ لَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَا عَلَيْهِمْ جُنَاحُۢ بَعْدَهُنَّۚ طَوَّٲفُونَ عَلَيْكُم بَعْضُكُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍۚ كَذَٲلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَيَـٰتِۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ ٥٨ O believers! Let those ?bondspeople? in your possession and those of you who are still under age ask for your permission ?to come in? at three times: before dawn prayer, when you take off your ?outer? clothes at noon, and after the late evening prayer. ?These are? three times of privacy for you. Other than these times, there is no blame on you or them to move freely, attending to one another. This is how Allah makes the revelations clear to you, for Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
- An Nur Ayah 59وَإِذَا بَلَغَ ٱلْأَطْفَـٰلُ مِنكُمُ ٱلْحُلُمَ فَلْيَسْتَــْٔذِنُواْ كَمَا ٱسْتَــْٔذَنَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْۚ كَذَٲلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ ٥٩ And when your children reach the age of puberty, let them seek permission ?to come in?, as their seniors do. This is how Allah makes His revelations clear to you, for Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
- An Nur Ayah 60وَٱلْقَوَٲعِدُ مِنَ ٱلنِّسَآءِ ٱلَّـٰتِى لَا يَرْجُونَ نِكَاحًا فَلَيْسَ عَلَيْهِنَّ جُنَاحٌ أَن يَضَعْنَ ثِيَابَهُنَّ غَيْرَ مُتَبَرِّجَـٰتِۭ بِزِينَةٍۖ وَأَن يَسْتَعْفِفْنَ خَيْرٌ لَّهُنَّۗ وَٱللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ ٦٠ As for elderly women past the age of marriage, there is no blame on them if they take off their ?outer? garments, without revealing their adornments. But it is better for them if they avoid this ?altogether?. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
- An Nur Ayah 61لَّيْسَ عَلَى ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ حَرَجٌ وَلَا عَلَى ٱلْأَعْرَجِ حَرَجٌ وَلَا عَلَى ٱلْمَرِيضِ حَرَجٌ وَلَا عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِكُمْ أَن تَأْكُلُواْ مِنۢ بُيُوتِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ ءَابَآئِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ إِخْوَٲنِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ أَخَوَٲتِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ أَعْمَـٰمِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ عَمَّـٰتِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ أَخْوَٲلِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ خَـٰلَـٰتِكُمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكْتُم مَّفَاتِحَهُۥٓ أَوْ صَدِيقِكُمْۚ لَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌ أَن تَأْكُلُواْ جَمِيعًا أَوْ أَشْتَاتًاۚ فَإِذَا دَخَلْتُم بُيُوتًا فَسَلِّمُواْ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِكُمْ تَحِيَّةً مِّنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ مُبَـٰرَكَةً طَيِّبَةًۚ كَذَٲلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَيَـٰتِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ ٦١ There is no restriction on the blind, or the disabled, or the sick. Nor on yourselves if you eat from your homes, or the homes of your fathers, or your mothers, or your brothers, or your sisters, or your paternal uncles, or your paternal aunts, or your maternal uncles, or your maternal aunts, or from the homes in your trust, or ?the homes of? your friends. There is no blame on you eating together or separately. However, when you enter houses, greet one another with a greeting ?of peace? from Allah, blessed and good. This is how Allah makes His revelations clear to you, so perhaps you will understand.
- An Nur Ayah 62إِنَّمَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَإِذَا كَانُواْ مَعَهُۥ عَلَىٰٓ أَمْرٍ جَامِعٍ لَّمْ يَذْهَبُواْ حَتَّىٰ يَسْتَــْٔذِنُوهُۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَسْتَــْٔذِنُونَكَ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦۚ فَإِذَا ٱسْتَــْٔذَنُوكَ لِبَعْضِ شَأْنِهِمْ فَأْذَن لِّمَن شِئْتَ مِنْهُمْ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمُ ٱللَّهَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ ٦٢ The ?true? believers are only those who believe in Allah and His Messenger, and when they are with him on a public matter, they do not leave without his permission. Indeed, those who ask your permission ?O Prophet? are the ones who ?truly? believe in Allah and His Messenger. So when they ask your permission for a private matter, grant permission to whoever you wish and ask Allah’s forgiveness for them. Surely Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
- An Nur Ayah 63لَّا تَجْعَلُواْ دُعَآءَ ٱلرَّسُولِ بَيْنَكُمْ كَدُعَآءِ بَعْضِكُم بَعْضًاۚ قَدْ يَعْلَمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ يَتَسَلَّلُونَ مِنكُمْ لِوَاذًاۚ فَلْيَحْذَرِ ٱلَّذِينَ يُخَالِفُونَ عَنْ أَمْرِهِۦٓ أَن تُصِيبَهُمْ فِتْنَةٌ أَوْ يُصِيبَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ ٦٣ Do not treat the Messenger’s summons to you ?as lightly? as your summons to one another. Allah certainly knows those of you who slip away, hiding behind others. So let those who disobey his orders beware, for an affliction may befall them, or a painful torment may overtake them.
- An Nur Ayah 64أَلَآ إِنَّ لِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِۖ قَدْ يَعْلَمُ مَآ أَنتُمْ عَلَيْهِ وَيَوْمَ يُرْجَعُونَ إِلَيْهِ فَيُنَبِّئُهُم بِمَا عَمِلُواْۗ وَٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمُۢ ٦٤ Surely to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth. He knows well what you stand for. And ?on? the Day all will be returned to Him, He will inform them of what they did. For Allah has ?perfect? knowledge of all things.
النور which is spelled Surah An Nur in english has meaning The Light is placed at number 24 in the Quran. This surah that contains 64 number of ayah, started on page 350 & ends on page 359 in the Holy Quran.
النور is part of & given to prophet Muhammad as the number 102 in the order of Quran revelation.
